Top 8 Richest

Indian steel tycoon Lakshmi Mittal is still the country's richest person, worth £17.5bn, down from £22.5bn last year and, strangely, makes him this year's biggest loser. In second place, up from sixth last time, is another steel guy, Uzbek-born Alisher Usmanov - he's the one who lost out to his American rival Stan Kroenke to take over Arsenal. He owns Russia's largest iron ore producer and mail.ru, which owns about 2% of Facebook. Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich stays in third.

The richest Briton (UK Born Brit) in the list remains the Duke of Westminster, who has dropped one place to fourth although his fortune rose £250m to £7bn, mainly due to foreign billionaires buoying the London property market.

Sunday Times Social List

Most of us will never make it onto The Sunday Times Rich List but there's more than one way to be wealthy.

The Sunday Times Social List determines your wealth, not by how much money you make but by how rich you are socially. It does this by taking a look at your social networking activity and how much interest it generates amongst your friends and colleagues. It then uses this information to work out your worth and your place on the list.
