Roman Abramovich throws a £5m New Year party in the Caribbean.

It was probably  the most glamorous and expensive New Year’s Eve party ever, with a guest-list of Hollywood stars and the world’s most popular band, Black Eyed Peas, providing the entertainment.

Abramovich had the entire area of St Barts cordoned off and a series of marquees were erected around the beach.

He commandeered a flotilla of luxury yachts, including one belonging to fellow Russian billionaire Andrey Melnichenko, on which guests could stay if they decided not to use any of the estate’s bungalows.

And at the stroke of midnight a dazzling firework display was launched from a yacht to ensure the partygoers saw in 2011 in style.
